Advisory Committee ///

The Advisory Committee meets bi-monthly and includes nationally and internationally recognised experts in various disciplines. It lays down the theoretical framework of the project, provides ongoing critical input to investigations and decisions and assists the team of curators with specialist advice.

Stefano Boeri /// 

Architect, Venice / Milan

Born in 1956 in Milan. Studied Architecture in Milan, doctorate (Ph.D.) at the IUAV in Venice in 1989. Teaches Town Planning at the Universities of Venice and Mendrisio (Switzerland) and is Visiting Professor at the Berlage Institute, Rotterdam. Has organised numerous interdisciplinary exhibitions and run a variety of research projects, including Uncertain States of Europe USE and Border-Device(s), as well as the multiplicity network, whose installation Solid Sea was shown at the documenta XI in Kassel. He also writes and lectures extensively.

Expert on the investigation of urban processes, town analyses and their media presentation.

Christine Hannemann /// 

Sociologist, Berlin

Born in 1960 in Berlin. Studied Law and Sociology at the Karl Marx University, Leipzig, and at the Humboldt University, Berlin, with Diploma in Sociology in 1986. 1986-90: member of academic staff at the Bauakademie (Academy of Building) of the GDR. 1990-94: member of academic staff at the Institute of Sociology of the Technical University of Berlin, with doctorate (Dr. Phil.) in 1994. Since 1994: member of academic staff at the Humboldt University, Berlin, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Urban and Regional Sociology. 1996-97: worked in the Ministry of Urban Development, Housing and Transport of the federal state of Brandenburg. Main subjects: urban sociology; housing sociology; architectural and planning sociology; city history and women's studies.

Expert on the empirical examination of transformational processes in eastern Germany.

Wolfgang Kil /// Architecture critic, Berlin

Born in 1948 in Berlin. 1967-72: studied Architecture at the College of Architecture and Building, Weimar, then worked as an architect in East Berlin. 1978-82: Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Farbe und Raum (Colour and Space), afterwards freelance journalist and critic. 1992-94: Editor on the magazine Bauwelt (Building World). Since then has published numerous articles and publications as a freelancer.
Prizes: Journalists' Prize of the BAK (Federal Chamber of Architects) (1993 and 2001); Critics' Prize of the BDA (German Federation of Architects) (1997); Journalists' Prize of the Märkische Presse- und Wirtschaftsclub (Mark Press and Business Club) (2002).

Expert on the cultural view of Eastern Germany and Eastern Europe, as a critic of art and photography, essayist and journalist.

Joachim Krausse /// Cultural Studies expert, Dessau / Berlin

Born in 1943. Studied Philosophy, Sociology, Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Bremen, with doctorate in 1994. 1981-98: member of academic staff and lecturer at the School of Fine Art, Berlin. Since 1999: Professor of Design Theory at the Technical College of Anhalt Dessau. Since 1992: regular work on the architectural magazine ARCH+, numerous publications and participation in exhibitions, documentary films.

Expert in the fields of architectural theory and history, technology and art.
Publications: Your Private Sky: R. Buckminster Fuller (with Claude Lichtenstein, Baden 2000); Ich bin im Bilde. Fotografie und Alltagskultur 1918-1985 (I'm in the Picture. Photography and Popular Culture, 1918-1985) (Berlin 1987).

Ulf Matthiesen /// 

Urban and Regional Researcher, Berlin

Born in 1943 in Hamburg. 1965-74: studied Sociology, Philosophy and Law in Freiburg and Frankfurt-am-Main. 1976-79: stipend for doctorate in Paris (under P. Bourdieu), afterwards member of academic staff in Dortmund, professorial qualification in Frankfurt-am-Main, professor at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Since 1994: Head of Department at the Institut für Regionalentwicklung und Strukturplanung (IRS) at Erkner, near Berlin. Since 2003: Professor at the Institute of European Ethnology of the Humboldt University, Berlin.

Expert on urban and regional culture, research into milieus, border areas (Germany-Poland), suburbanisation, post-socialist transformations, structural relationships between informational, scientific and urban development and the culture of building.
 


Ulrich Pfeiffer /// 

Urban economist, Berlin / Bonn

Born in 1939 in Frankfurt/Oder. 1965: Diploma in Economics in Munich. 1965-67: research assistant in Regional Planning and Urban Development. 1968-82: employed in various federal government ministries, Head of the Housing Department at the Ministry of Building. 1982: put in temporary retirement from government employment. 1982-86: freelance consultant nationally and internationally. 1990: founded "empirica" consulting agency, leading to extensive consultancy work in eastern Germany.

Expert on the social city, housing markets, regional development, business research, asset management, risk analysis and site studies.
